Year 3 - Ducks and Otters
Summer Term 2018
This term our topics include ‘World Explorers’ and ‘Save the Earth.’
We will be using ‘Dear Greenpeace’ by Simon James, ‘Around the world in eighty days’ by Jules Verne and ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies as our class books this term.
We will be exploring persuasive writing and creating stories about journeys.
Spelling tests for Ducks and Otters are on Thursdays. New spellings will be in homework books on Fridays. Please help your child learn them at home.
Please hear your child read regularly at home.
This term our topics will include fractions, time, shape, mass and capacity. Please encourage your child to practise their times tables at home.
We will be studying plants and animals.
We will be focussing on geography skills in our ‘World Explorers’ topic. We will be learning how to use maps, atlases and globes. We will be finding out about how places around the world are different from where we live.
In our ‘Save the World’ topic during the second half term, we will explore ways in which environmental art can be used to encourage people to take care of the planet.
We are planning to use Harlow Museum and Gibberd Gardens over the term. Details will be announced at a later date.
