Year 4 - Kestrels and Rabbits

SpringTerm 2018

Welcome back Parents and Carers. We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas break and are ready for a great school year.

The year 4 team ask that we work together as a partnership to help your child reach their full potential. If you have any questions or concerns, please come in and see us. Communication is key to a successful partnership.

Literacy

This term our class novels are “Beowulf” by Rob Lloyd Jones and “Radio Boy” by Christian O’Connell. These books will support our learning through Literacy and our topics, Invaders and Settlers and Rock Band.

Spellings will be given out on a weekly basis and will be taken home to learn. Both year 4 classes will be given their spellings on a Wednesday to be tested the following Tuesday. Please ensure that your child learns their spellings, ready for this test.

Reading

Please listen to and encourage your child to read at home. It is helpful to discuss the content of the books with your child, to develop their comprehension skills and understanding.

Maths

Maths homework will be set each Tuesday. This homework will need to be returned by the following Monday at the latest. The homework will be based around the work that the children have undertaken during that particular week in school. This enables us to consolidate their learning and address any misconceptions. This term our focus is multiplication, division, measurement, fractions and decimals.

Science- our topics are states of matter and sound. We will be looking at evaporation, condensation and the water cycle. We will also look at how sound is made, how it travels and pitch.

Swimming- Year 4 will also be attending swimming lessons at Burnt Mill this term. Lessons will commence on Thursday 18th January and run till the 8th February.

PE will be as follows:

Kestrels – Monday, Wednesday

Rabbits-  Tuesday, Wednesday,

We are looking forward to a great year working with you and your child.

Thank you for your support.
